Soul Searchin': "Okinawa" wo Kaki Tsuzukeru Otoko - Shinzato Kenshin Sakuhin Senshuu Oyobi Hyouden

Since his debut in 1978 with "The Battle of Okinawa," Okinawa's leading manga artist, Shinzato Kenshin, has continued to depict Okinawa's history and cultural artifacts, including the Battle of Okinawa. Although extremely prolific, only a few of his works have been published on the mainland, and he has devoted most of his 50-year career as an artist to "painting Okinawa in Okinawa." 80 years after the war. While the horrors of war still continue in the world, what exactly is the "ground war" that one man born after the war continues to depict as if possessed? This special project commemorating 80 years since the end of the war reexamines the history of postwar Okinawan culture and Japanese manga through the life and work of Shinzato, who could be said to be a missing piece in the history of manga.
