Break free from the curse of "family"! The author was an abused child herself. While dealing with her own indelible trauma, she recalls the past and present cases of friends and acquaintances who have also suffered abuse. Physical violence, sexual abuse, neglect, lack of sympathy for mental illnesses and disabilities, and disregard for personal dignity... Children find themselves stuck in painful situations, as their uncomfortable feelings are suppressed just "because it's family." What kind of lives will these children lead when they grow up? To protect yourself, to survive, it's okay to try to escape. That is the message that underlies this story. A comic essay that looks at the reality of toxic parents and casts aspersions on the idea of family.
