One of the most celebrated paintings in the world is believed to be the work of the master, Whip Valamer, the premier portraitist of 18th century Europe. The subject of the painting is Zabeth Clayton, the adored first-born daughter of a storied family who is said to have died of an illness at the flowering of youth. This often-told story hides a truth at once more beautiful and tragic. (Source: Tapas)
